The main flight abroad from Switzerland arrived on July 21, 1921. In the early long stretches of avionics, the Dübendorf Air Base, found exactly 8 km (5.0 mi) toward the south-east of Zurich Airport, additionally filled in as the city’s business landing strip. The requirement for a devoted business office prompted the quest for an area at which to assemble a substitution airport.
Switzerland’s government parliament chose in 1945 that Zürich was to be the site of a noteworthy airplane terminal, and sold 655 hectares (1,620 sections of land) of the Kloten-Bülach Artillery Garrison (German: Artillerie-Waffenplatz Kloten-Bülach) to the canton of Zürich, giving the canton control of the new runway. Development of the airplane terminal started the next year.
